ClickHero – a gentle click, a big difference
Sometimes the best ideas start not with a plan, but with a question.
A while ago, someone asked me:
“Is there a clicker that isn’t so hard to press?”
For people with limited hand strength or reduced dexterity, a standard mechanical clicker can be a real challenge.
The spring requires too much pressure, the click is loud and sharp, and using it repeatedly can be painful.
Yet for many assistance dog teams, clicker training remains an essential part of clear and positive communication.
And that’s where the idea for the ClickHero began.
Created from need, developed with care
The ClickHero is not a standard clicker.
It’s a handmade electronic beep clicker – carefully soldered, tested and designed with comfort and accessibility in mind.
Instead of a harsh click, it emits a soft beep sound.
The design focuses on:
a button that requires minimal pressure
a tone that’s gentle for both handler and dog
and a sturdy, compact shape suitable for everyday use, including ADL tasks or medical alert work.
What started as one person’s request quickly revealed a broader need.
Many handlers struggle with the physical demands of a traditional clicker — especially those who use a wheelchair or have reduced hand mobility or chronic pain.
For them, a small change can make a world of difference. That’s exactly what the ClickHero aims to do.
The principle behind the ClickHero
When you press the button, it closes the circuit and produces a beep.
You control the length of the sound yourself: press briefly for a short beep, hold it longer for a sustained tone.
The volume is intentionally modest – clear enough for your dog to hear, yet soft enough to prevent irritation or hearing strain.
The tone frequency is deliberately high, since dogs hear best in that range.
What sounds subtle to us is crisp and distinct to them.
This makes the ClickHero ideal for indoor work, quiet environments, or focused training sessions.
Pavlov in practice – learning through association
Whether you use a mechanical clicker, a verbal marker, or the ClickHero, the learning principle is exactly the same.
No dog naturally understands what a click or beep means — it’s something they learn through association.
This process follows classical conditioning, also known as the Pavlov effect:
“That sound means something good is coming.”
Every clicker, electronic or mechanical, works on this same foundation.
The dog learns that the sound predicts a reward.
Some dogs make this connection within a few sessions, while experienced service dogs who’ve trained for years with a mechanical clicker may need weeks — or even months — to transfer that association.
That’s perfectly normal.
The key is to train patiently, reward consistently, and allow time for the new tone to gain meaning.
Of course, you can always use a verbal marker word as an alternative or complement, especially when using a tool isn’t practical.
Practical and safe
The ClickHero is splash-resistant and can easily handle light rain or damp hands.
The internal wiring is carefully insulated, and the button is firmly mounted.
It runs on a standard CR2032 battery, which is easy to replace.
For shipping safety reasons, the product is supplied without the battery, as lithium cells cannot be sent internationally.
A small piece of nanotape allows you to attach the ClickHero securely to a wheelchair tray.
You can also order it with a wrist or key cord, which attaches via a sturdy eyelet built into the housing.
That same eyelet can also hold a carabiner, making it easy to hang the ClickHero from a bag, belt, or wheelchair hook.
Tip: the lid of the ClickHero fits tightly, but adding a small piece of tape underneath can’t hurt — especially if you hang it, let it swing freely, or expect it to bump against something during use.
It simply adds an extra layer of security, though it isn’t required for normal use.

Built from real-life experience
Early prototypes of the ClickHero were tested by experienced service-dog handlers, whose honest feedback shaped the final version.
Their input on button feel, tone, and ergonomics helped refine a design that is practical, safe and easy to use.
The ClickHero proves especially useful for quiet indoor sessions, daily tasks and focused work, where precision and comfort matter more than loudness.
It’s a small tool with a big purpose: making clicker training accessible again for everyone, regardless of strength, mobility or condition.
Final thought
The ClickHero is more than just a training tool.
It’s a thoughtful solution, created from genuine need and built with care.
